Heart Rate Monitoring
Heart rate monitoring. EKG Holter
Heart rhythm monitoring is essential for the detection and management of arrhythmias and other heart rhythm problems. At CorePrime we utilize EKG Holter technology to monitor patients' heart rhythms for 24-72 hours or longer (up to 7 days), providing a complete picture of cardiac function.
Heart rate monitoring is recommended in the following situations:
- people with symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, fainting or shortness of breath;
- patients with a history of arrhythmias, myocardial infarction or other heart conditions;
- assessing the effectiveness of treatments for arrhythmias;
- preventive screening for people with cardiovascular risk factors.
Holter monitoring. What is an EKG Holter?
The Holter EKG is a device that records the electrical activity of the heart over an extended period of time, usually 24-72 hours, sometimes even 7 consecutive days (7-day Holter). The patient wears the device, allowing continuous monitoring of the heart rhythm and detection of abnormalities that may occur during the day and night.
The electrodes are placed on the patient's chest and connected to the Holter device. The device is worn continuously, including during the night, and should not be removed.
After the monitoring period, the data are analyzed by a cardiologist. The detailed report of the heart's electrical activity helps identify arrhythmias and other heart rhythm abnormalities.
Heart rhythm monitoring with ECG Holter: FAQs
What makes ECG Holter monitoring different from a standard ECG?
EKG Holter monitoring records the heart's electrical activity over an extended period of time (hours or days), giving a complete picture of heart function under real-life conditions, unlike standard ECG assessment which records only a few seconds.
What should I do during EKG Holter monitoring?
Patients should carry out their usual daily activities and keep a diary of activities and symptoms. It is important to avoid wetting the device and to inform the doctor of any discomfort or problems.
Is EKG Holter monitoring uncomfortable?
The EKG Holter is compact and lightweight, so it should not cause major discomfort. Patients may initially feel aware of the device, but quickly get used to it.
How often should I do the monitoring?
The frequency of monitoring depends on your general heart health and your doctor's recommendations. People with arrhythmias or other heart conditions may require regular monitoring.
What types of arrhythmias can be detected with an EKG Holter?
An EKG Holter can detect a variety of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, tachycardia, bradycardia and other heart rhythm abnormalities.
